Alan Kikuchi-Yngojo (b. 1949) is a photographer and visual artist whose experimental practice explores photographic imagery, perception and cultural identity. Born in San Francisco, he attended Diablo Valley College before earning his B.A. in 1971 and M.F.A. in 1974 from University of California, Davis. Working with photography, including Polaroid instant dye diffusion transfer prints, Kikuchi-Yngojo investigated the possibilities of photographic processes beyond conventional representation. His work emerged during a period of experimentation in which artists increasingly challenged distinctions between photography, painting and conceptual art. His exhibitions include Asian American Artists at UC Davis (1971), Contemporary Icons at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (1974), and Beyond Photography at the Alternative Museum in New York (1980). He also exhibited at 112 Greene Street in New York and Wake Forest University's Fine Arts Gallery. His work is represented in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
