April Camlin

April Camlin (b. 1983) is a mixed-media textile artist whose large-scale tapestries and sculptural installations explore grief, resilience, embodiment, pleasure and transformation. Raised in Maryland, Camlin combines handweaving with ceramics, salvaged wood, found objects, rope, beeswax and other organic materials. She describes her approach as “expanded weaving,” extending textile processes beyond the loom into three-dimensional space. The changing and sometimes deteriorating materials in her work reflect her interest in cycles of growth, death and renewal. Camlin earned her B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2015 and her M.F.A. in art studio from the University of California, Davis in 2024. That year her mixed-media sculpture It’s Coming Back received the LeShelle & Gary May Art Purchase Prize and entered the university’s Fine Arts Collection.
