Deborah Hamon (b. 1968) is an Australian-born American painter and photographer whose work explores identity, imagination and the natural world. Born in Adelaide, Australia, she earned her B.F.A. from the University of the Pacific in 1990 and her M.F.A. from the University of California, Davis, in 2002, where she served as a teaching assistant to Wayne Thiebaud and worked closely with David Hollowell. Her earlier paintings and digitally constructed photographs, including the Truly Girls and Girls: Fact and Fiction series, examine girlhood, identity and the relationship between reality and imagination. Her more recent abstract paintings draw inspiration from nature, travel and exploration, incorporating layered acrylic paint, pigments and glass beads to evoke light, movement and discovery. Hamon participated in the Arctic Circle Residency in 2013 and was selected for Photo District News 30 emerging photographers in 2010.
