Dennis Raines is a printmaker whose practice combines traditional printmaking techniques with digital technologies. He studied at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle before earning his M.F.A. in 2003 at the University of California, Davis, where he began integrating digital processes into his work and developed his teaching practice. Working with intaglio, screenprinting and digitally generated imagery, Raines explores the relationship between established printmaking traditions and emerging technologies. His approach, sometimes described as “tradigital” printmaking, combines digital image manipulation with physical printing processes, challenging distinctions between handmade and mechanically reproduced images. Raines has taught printmaking and exhibited in the Pacific Northwest.
