Donna Billick is a sculptor and public artist whose work brings together ceramics, environmental science and community participation. Born in Ohio, Billick earned a B.S. in Genetics (1973) and an M.F.A. in Studio Art (1977) from the University of California, Davis. Billick creates colorful public sculptures and installations that frequently incorporate imagery drawn from plants, animals and the natural world. Her collaborative approach invites students, scientists and community members to participate directly in the creation of public art. In 1997, she co-founded the UC Davis Art/Science Fusion initiative with entomologist Diane Ullman, developing interdisciplinary courses and projects that connect artistic expression with scientific inquiry. Her numerous public works include Nature's Gallery in the UC Davis Arboretum, Miss Bee Haven at the university's Honey Bee Haven and the Mediation sculpture in Davis's Central Park Gardens.
