Jordan Benton

Jordan Benton (b. 1992) is a Kentucky-born photographer whose work explores relationships among place, landscape, technology, and the ways people observe and understand the natural world. His early photographs focused on the American South and the environments in which he grew up, combining traditions of American documentary photography with observational storytelling. Benton earned his B.S. from Murray State University in 2014 and his M.F.A. in art studio from the University of California, Davis, in 2023. At UC Davis, he collaborated with hydrologic scientist William Speiser on research at the Bodega Marine Reserve. Benton received the Keister & Allen Art Purchase Prize, bringing his work into the Fine Arts Collection.  He also received the Robert Arneson Award from UC Davis. His recent work continues to examine human intervention in landscapes, including photographs of prescribed-burn piles that explore the visual traces of ecological management.
