Julia Couzens

Julia Couzens (b. 1947) is an artist and writer whose drawings, sculptures and textile-based assemblages explore the body, memory and the expressive possibilities of everyday materials. Born in Auburn, California, Couzens earned a B.A. in 1970 in English and Philosophy from California State University, Chico, an M.A.  in 1987 from California State University, Sacramento and an M.F.A. in 1990 from the University of California, Davis. Her exhibitions include surveys at the Sonoma Museum of Art (1999) and at the Cheongju Contemporary Craft Biennale in South Korea (2019). She received fellowships from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation and Art Matters in 1995.
