Julie Bozzi

Julie Bozzi (b. 1943) is a painter whose work finds beauty and meaning in ordinary landscapes and everyday objects. Born in San Jose, California, Bozzi earned a B.A. (1974) and an M.F.A. (1976) from the University of California, Davis. She also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1975. Known for her meticulously observed, often miniature landscapes, Bozzi paints overlooked places along highways, suburban roads and rural outskirts, frequently working directly from her car. Since moving to Texas in 1980, she has explored the relationship between natural environments and human development. Her practice also encompasses American Food (1980–1992), an elaborate collection of miniature food replicas that examines consumer culture and American identity. Bozzi received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2005, and her work is held in collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
