Nelleke Beltjens

Nelleke Beltjens (b. 1974) is a Dutch artist whose abstract drawings and sculptures explore relationships among line, space, movement and perception. Born in Roermond, the Netherlands, Beltjens studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Tilburg before earning an M.A. in 1998 from Northern Illinois University and an M.F.A. in 2001 from the University of California, Davis. Initially working in minimalist sculpture, she developed a distinctive approach to drawing in which individual lines are fragmented into small marks, creating intricate networks that suggest movement, depth and shifting spatial relationships. Her process often involves transferring fragments between drawings, allowing unexpected structures and patterns to emerge. Beltjens has exhibited internationally, including at Galerie Christian Lethert in Cologne, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and Museum Wilhelm Morgner in Germany.
