Oscar Ho Hing-kay

Oscar Ho Hing-kay (b. 1956), also known as Oscar Hing Ho, is a Hong Kong artist, curator, educator and cultural historian whose work has helped shape contemporary art and museum practice in Asia. He earned his B.F.A. from the University of Saskatchewan and his M.F.A. in 1983 from the University of California, Davis. As exhibition director of the Hong Kong Arts Centre (1988–2001), he organized approximately 100 exhibitions, pioneering approaches to socially engaged curating that explored cultural identity, collective memory and the construction of history. His influential Lo Ting project challenged conventional historical narratives, while his artistic practice, including the Stories Around Town series, blends fact, fiction and urban mythology. Ho subsequently served as founding director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai, and directed the Cultural Management master's program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has also contributed to cultural policy and arts advocacy, advocating for museums as spaces for public dialogue, critical inquiry and social engagement.
