Rachel Deane is an interdisciplinary artist whose paintings, textiles and installations explore female sexuality, personal identity, trauma and healing. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Deane earned a B.F.A. in painting in 2016 and an M.A. in Art and Design Education in 2017 from the Rhode Island School of Design, followed by an M.F.A. in 2019 from the University of California, Davis. Her practice combines richly patterned paintings, embroidered tapestries and immersive environments inspired by contemporary folklore that she writes herself. Through imagined characters and domestic settings, she investigates relationships, memory and the ways individuals process difficult experiences. In 2019, Deane received the Keister & Allen Art Purchase Prize, bringing her work into the UC Davis Fine Arts Collection.
