Richard Crozier (b. 1944) is a painter whose landscapes document the changing relationship between the built and natural environments. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Crozier earned a B.F.A. in 1968 from the University of Washington and an M.F.A. in 1974 from the University of California, Davis. Combining plein air observation with an interest in abstraction, Crozier uses expressive brushwork, color and texture to capture ordinary places undergoing transformation. His paintings frequently depict streets, construction sites, houses and landscapes around Charlottesville, Virginia, where he taught at the University of Virginia from 1974 until 2011. His work has been exhibited nationally and is represented in collections including the Speed Art Museum and Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art.
