Ron Baron (b. 1957) is a sculptor and installation artist whose work transforms discarded everyday objects into meditations on memory, loss, value and cultural history. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Baron earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an M.F.A. in 1987 from the University of California, Davis. While studying at Davis, he began combining ceramics with objects collected from thrift stores and garage sales, an approach that became central to his practice. After graduate school, Baron increasingly worked with found objects, arranging remnants of everyday life into sculptures that evoke archaeological artifacts and accumulated personal histories. His work has expanded into large-scale public installations and commissions for transit systems, airports, libraries and other civic spaces across the United States. Baron has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Pollock-Krasner Foundation and New York Foundation for the Arts. He lives and works in Brooklyn and has taught sculpture and ceramics at the School of Visual Arts since 2006.
