Scott Donahue

Scott Donahue (b. 1951) is a Bay Area sculptor known for site-specific public artworks that combine figurative imagery with the histories, communities and environments of their locations. Born in Hinsdale, Illinois, Donahue earned his B.F.A. from the Philadelphia College of Art in 1973 and his M.F.A. from the University of California, Davis, in 1982. Working in concrete, bronze, fiberglass, ceramic and other materials, he has produced public sculptures since the early 1980s. Many of his works incorporate human figures and recognizable imagery to explore community, cultural diversity and local history. His commissions include projects for San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Palo Alto and Emeryville, as well as Bay Area Rapid Transit and Denver’s Regional Transportation District. Donahue has taught at UC Davis, UC Berkeley and California College of the Arts. A longtime resident of Emeryville, he has maintained his studio at the Emeryville Artists’ Cooperative and served eight years on the Emeryville City Council, including a term as mayor.
