Victor Cicansky (1935–2025) was a Canadian ceramic sculptor whose imaginative, often humorous work celebrated nature, gardening and working-class life. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, he earned a B.Ed. in 1964 from the University of Saskatchewan, a B.A. in 1967 from its Regina campus, and an M.F.A. in 1970 from the University of California, Davis. At UC Davis, he studied with Robert Arneson and encountered the irreverent spirit of California Funk art, which encouraged his transition from functional pottery to sculptural ceramics. Returning to Saskatchewan, Cicansky became a leading figure in the Regina Clay Movement, creating colorful ceramic and bronze sculptures inspired by vegetables, gardens, household objects and memories of his childhood. He taught at the University of Regina for more than two decades and returned to UC Davis as a visiting professor in 1988. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Canada and other international collections. He received the Order of Canada in 2009.
