As a child I was seduced by the richness of my forested surroundings. My experiences in this environment, personal relationships, and stories wove together, forming a utopian foundation that took hold of me and grips me still. A violent loss of innocence, coupled with grief, fractured this enchanted illusion. Forced to reconstruct this world, my connection to those formative sensibilities deepened, stimulating the artistic pursuit of allowing this inner landscape a life outside of myself. I sift through this amalgam of memory with the language of paint, embodying images that emanate from events of my childhood, visuals and narratives found in fiction, art history, and film, combined with the redwood forest where I grew up.
